So let’s start.

What are Infographics and its benefits?

What are Infographics and its benefits?

An Infographic is simply representation of data visually. Or as Jeff Bullas says, Infographics are a mix of design, data and analysis. Whatever information we get visually can be said as an Infographic. This way of representation of data using Infographics is very helpful because it avoids reading of tons of paragraphs or data.

An Infographic contains some message or information that a user can perceive easily. Suppose you want to display some information quickly and clearly, then Infographic is the best way to do it.

Why Infographics? Why can’t we just post an article on something and spread information or message? I think these questions must be running in your mind and are seeking for an answer. Well then, below are the answers to all these questions.

Benefits of Infographics

One can give you thousand reasons why Infographics are better than written content. I will give you here some of those major reasons. .

1. People who use Infographics in their content rank better than those who don’t. Publishers who used Infographics in their content have grown their traffic 12% better than others.

2. It is sharable. People can easily share Infographics on different social networking websites. Also if your Infographic is good, then other people will add it to their website and give a backlink to your website. This is really helpful to get referral traffic.

3. Visual content drives engagement. It helps to boost social media and online engagement. Humans remember 20% of what they hear, 30% what they see and 70% of what they hear and see. This ratio explains everything. So adding an Infographic with written content can drive more engagement.

4. Infographics are more effective. Infographics communicates information more effectively because it can communicate large amounts of data more easily and in a short span of time.

5. They can easily go viral. This is most important factor which makes Infographics much better than any other form of content. Once it gets attention of social media, journalists and big influencers, then it can go viral and get tons of shares. This will again help you get good referral traffic and help you build your brand.

So these were some reasons to why Infographics are better than written content. These reasons also show that Infographic marketing is still alive and one can benefit from it.

Now we need to remember some things before we create an Infographic. These things are to be taken care of or else your Infographic will suck and ultimately it will be wasted.

Things to remember before creating an Infographic

There are many important key points you need to remember before you start creating an Infographic. It’s not just collecting data and designing the Infographic. It’s beyond that and this part will uncover those key points with some good tips and tricks.

So, before you create an Infographic you need to have some information about it. For example, different sizes of an Infographic, different types etc. There are some key factors which if avoided can make your Infographic suck. These are:

Different sizes of an Infographic

So even if after knowing what are Infographics, people think that they are always long sized. One of the most common misconceptions is that people think that Infographic are long sized design. It can be of any size, a square, circle, triangular etc.

The reason behind this misconception is that the long sized Infographics are the most common of all. So first thing you need to know is the different sizes of an Infographic. This will help you choose the perfect size otherwise either you will have very less or very much content to add.

And I am sure this will get exhausting for you as will try to add more content to your Infographic just to fill the blank area. This will eventually reduce the quality of the Infographic.

Types of Infographics

Here we are not talking about the sizes. The subject matter here is what type of Infographic you will create. Many people often collect the data and start creating the Infographic. That is absolutely wrong.

You must know what type of Infographic you will create and what data or content you will present. There are different ways to present content on an Infographic. And you must know how to do it. If you fail, your Infographic will not get anyone’s attention. Some common types of Infographics which we normally see are:

  1. Flowchart
  2. Timeline
  3. Vs Infographics
  4. Research Infographics
  5. Facts and Numbers

There are many other different types of Infographics. And to decide which type is perfect for you NeoMam Studios created an Infographic regarding this problem.

Get the Material Ready

Many people have the habit of getting the data at the time when they are designing the Infographic. This is a lame process as you do not analyze your content. This also creates chances of making mistakes.

Not only this, the most important of all you are not providing anything unique unless and until you do not sit and analyze or make your data much better. It is better to first collect all the data and elements you will use for the design and then create the Infographic.

Do not forget the Quality of the Images

This is very important factor. Even if you have great content but your images on the Infographic are of low quality, then your Infographic is a waste. People add amazing images in their Infographics but they are of low quality because they may be copyrighted.

This is very lousy and I suggest those people to either buy some stock photography or find some free images before you start creating your images. You can find tons of images and vectors for Infographics which are good and are of high quality. You can check a post about different websites to get free stock images on Iftiseo.

Unique and Original

Providing unique and original information is very necessary. As we discussed in the above points, not providing unique information can cause your own bad. And by being unique I don’t mean to add any false data or information. You should be unique and original at the same time.

Creating unique content is hard these days, so you can just collect data from different places and make some changes and updates and finally merge them. This is better than providing some copied content. It is rather helpful because you have combined different data or information from different sources and are presenting in one piece.

Don’t be Questionable

Sometimes when you research on something and then present your data and analysis, it is possible that people may ask you some explanations. Even in Infographics when you present your data many people may ask you or criticize you. At this time you need to be confident about what you have added in there.

It’s not like someone telling you that your facts are wrong and you accepting that. It leaves a negative impact. So if cannot handle such situations it is better that you do a good research on your topic carefully and verify your data and then add it.

Know the Cause of the Infographic

You should always know for what reason or cause you are creating your infographic. Without any cause your Infographic will be useless and will not be shared much. Always create Infographics on topics which are viral. You can of course create an Infographics which are not viral but those will not be shared as the ones which are viral.

Understand the Information, Design and Tools

You must need to understand the information about which you are going to create your Infographic. This will help you decide the layout or the design of the Infographic. Always create a rough work on a paper of what you will create. This will act as your blueprint and you can make it more easily.

Also you should know the tools and the software with which you will create the Infographic. If you are new to graphic design, then you must see some examples of good, simple and amazing Infographics.

These were some important things you must need to remember. Make sure you follow these points otherwise your Infographic will not be much effective.

Finding content for Infographics

Finding content for Infographics

Now this is something simple. If you are a blogger then you won’t find any problems finding content. But if you are a newbie, then you need to keep in mind these sources/ways to find content for your Infographic

Find Content that is Viral

As discussed above, creating an Infographic that is viral is really helpful as it gets people’s attention and ultimately more and more shares. You can find such content on Google Trends. Also you can head over to BuzzSumo and find what content is shared the most. This will help you get those topics which are searched in a high frequency.

For example: The Dress, it went really viral all around the world and created a worldwide trend on Twitter. I saw Infographics on this topic and guess what, they had tons of shares. So if you create an Infographic on something that is really viral then it will benefit you.

Also you can create infographic on something which is in demand. If people want some information about something then an Infographic is helpful for them and you too. It will generate more engagement. You can also consider this as creating Infographic on something viral but not that viral.

Check Others’ Content and Infographics

Suppose you want to create an Infographic about a topic of which you know nothing, then you can simply search that topic on and find other Infographics on that topic. Or simply read some articles about it by searching it on Google.

Create Content from Case Studies

Many people add different case studies on some topic. In a case study, people mostly add their goal, what they did, how it worked, what they achieved and what mistakes they made.

These five points can be converted into your content as what is the goal, how to do, how to make it work, what will you get and mistakes to avoid. This method is very effective when you are tired of searching perfect content for your Infographic.

Conduct a Survey

You can conduct a survey on the topic to learn more about it and find information. This is really one of the best ways as you are already engaging people on a topic. Later after publishing the Infographic, it will be easy for you to get those same people engaged.

The best way for getting information from people is asking on groups or asking friends. The things you should include in the survey are: their thought on the topic, what can be done, how it helped in the past, how it can help more. These things are totally different and are based on the topic of the survey.

This is it for finding content. I think you won’t find much difficulty in finding content for your Infographic and even if you do, then these points will help you.

Websites for cool Infographic elements

Websites for cool Infographic elements

How to Create Infographics

Moving on to the most important part, this part will explain you how to create Infographics. There isn’t any tutorial here but the basics which you need to know for creating Infographics.

After collecting the data, elements and deciding the size and type of the Infographic, you now need to mix them all and create one amazing Infographic. For this which software would you use?

If you are saying Photoshop then you are on the wrong side of the track. Have you ever tried creating an Infographic using Photoshop? If yes you may have faced the problem of bad quality of Infographic on zooming. That is why we don’t use Photoshop for creating Infographics.

The reason in short is Photoshop doesn’t have enough pixels to render small text smoothly. If you want to know more about why we should not use Photoshop from Infographic design, then you must read Timo Leuge’s post where he explains everything clearly.

So then what to use? The answer to this question is Adobe Illustrator. Always create Infographics using Illustrator. It is very easy to use and Photoshop users will not find any difficulties in using it. It is very simple.

Also follow these tips to make your Infographic much better and appealing.

1. Make sure you don’t add up too much text. It will make it look filled and complex. Make it simple.

2. Always check the spelling mistakes. Also do not commit silly design mistakes.

3. Colors should be chosen in a right way as they give both conceptual and emotional impressions. Use complementary colors. The below image will help you to choose the right color for your Infographic.

Colors to choose while creating infographics

4. Your headline should not suck. No one will read it unless your title is not good.

5. Do not forget to add “designed by” at the end of your Infographic.

Just remember these points to make your Infographic much better and effective so that it gets more shares.

If you don’t want to create Infographics using any software, then there are many online tools with which you can create good Infographics.

In the next part, I will show you some methods to make your Infographic visually appealing.

How make your Infographic visually appealing

There are many different ways by which you can make your Infographic visually appealing. There are some tools which can help you achieve this. Some of them are:

Wordle – This tool helps you to create a word cloud from the given words. This looks good and also saves time for creating word clouds.

ChartsBin – Chartsbin allows you to create a map from the given data.

Canva – This tool is for non-designers and helps to create amazing images.

Now these are some tips that will make your Infographic visually appealing.

  1. Use grids.
  2. Try adding simple filters and effects.
  3. Use colors that fit the topic.
  4. Your stock photos should be awesome.
  5. Make typography look awesome.

These tips if followed correctly can help you make stunning Infographics.

Publishing your Infographic

This is also an important factor as here it’s not just publishing your Infographic. While publishing an Infographic, one needs to keep in mind several steps which will help the Infographic get good response. If these steps are not followed correctly then your Infographic will not be as effective as you wished it to be.

Now first we will discuss things you need to do/remember before publishing an Infographic.

1. Optimize before publishing. Make sure your Infographic loads fast on the website. If you fail to do this, then your web page will load slowly and eventually no one will wait to read your Infographic. Find a balance between the image size and resolution so that after reducing the size, the resolution and quality of the Infographic remains high or good.

2. Select the correct file type before publishing. Your file type should be either PNG or JPEG as these formats can be easily embedded. I would recommend you to save your file in PNG format.

3. Spell Check again. You must spell check your Infographic many times. Because once a mistake is found after publishing, then it will be an embarrassment. Ask your friend or someone in your home to check the spellings and grammar of the sentences or text of your Infographic. I prefer asking someone else because sometimes we spell something wrong and think it is right.

4. Check the design. The design and boundaries of your Infographic must be in proportion. Use grids to avoid such kind of errors.

5. Make a list of websites which have similar content or make a list of communities/groups which are interested on the topic of your Infographic. This will save your time as after publishing the Infographic you need not search where to share it and where not to. You can follow this step after publishing your Infographic but it is better you do this before publishing.

Make sure you follow all these things before publishing to avoid mistakes.

Assuming that you published your Infographic on your blog, now we will discuss things which you need to do after publishing your Infographic.

  1. Add an embed code.

It is simply a snippet with Html code which can be copied and added on some other website to display the infographic. This is the key to getting shares to your Infographic. This way you are not only getting traffic but also you are building links to your website.

There are many ways to add an embed code for your Infographic. In WordPress, you can simply use a plugin called “Embed Code Generator”. You just need to download and install the plugin and you’re done.

But in Blogger and other similar platforms, you need to add the embed code manually. This can be done very easily. You can Google it and find how to add it. But let me explain it here simply for those who find difficulties in adding an embed code to their websites.

Just go to Siege Media’s Embed Code Generator. Fill the information asked. At last they will generate the embed code. Check this tutorial by Hubspot which explains how to add an embed code for an infographic.

Want to optimize your embed code? Then this video tutorial by Neil Patel from Quick Sprout will help you.

  1. Share on social media.

Now it is similar to sharing posts on social media. Actually this becomes much easier than that if your Infographic is cool. The day when you publish your Infographic, share it on Facebook groups and pages, share on google plus communities, pin it on Pinterest, share on Reddit, Flipboard, Twitter. It will get good response and engagement if the content is good.

There are some more tricks which I use to bring traffic to blog posts and you can do the same for Infographics.

Use Just Retweet to share your Infographics. In this website you get points by sharing others content. Once you have enough points, you can add your content for sharing by selecting the number of points for one share. This way others will share your content also.

You might be thinking that people will just share for points. But once it is shared, there are chances its goes viral depending upon the person’s social profile.

Similarly post your Infographic on Google plus communities. It is the best place to get good shares.

Also refer to this Infographic to get more idea to share your Infographics more effectively.

  1. Submit your Infographics

There are many resources where you can submit your Infographics. From there you can get thousands of shares. Some places where you can submit your Infographics are:

Daily Infographic

Cool Infographics

You can find hundreds of such websites. Just Google “Submit Infographic” and you will get many websites.

One more method which Neil Patel explained in his video was to buy a gig on Fiverr. As he said, just search “your infographics” on Fiverr and you fill find many gigs which offer to share your Infographics on their websites. And some of them have good websites with good PR and Moz ranks. And this is just for 5$. I never tried this, but I think it’s worth doing it and you can give it a try.

These steps are quite helpful if followed correctly. Now in the last section, we will discuss some key points that will help you make your Infographic go viral.
